Computer technician

Computer support technician needed for a suburban MD newspaper. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems and applications, PC hardware support and basic networking. Experience with desktop publishing applications, phone systems and end-user training a plus.

Press Technician

Comprint Printing, a division of Post-Newsweek Media, Inc., has immediate openings for Press Technicians in our Laurel plant. State-of-the-art technology, Mitsubishi printing press. We will train individuals with mechanical aptitude and strong work ethic for a career in the printing technology industry. Individuals must be computer literate, team players, and have good verbal and written skills.

Printing experience preferred but not required. This position is a labor position which requires repetitive stacking of newspapers and very hands-on work on the printing press. After training period individuals, would be assigned to one of our 3 shifts: 6 am-2 pm, 2 pm - 10 pm, 10 pm - 6 am. Upward mobility potential for this exciting career opportunity. $13.50/hour. EOE. The Gazette has openings for general assignment reporters in its Frederick County, Md., and Prince George’s County, Md., newsrooms.

Duties include covering news events, meetings and writing features in and around municipalities.

We’re looking for community reporters who can develop and work with sources to uncover stories and produce enterprising reports for weekly print and daily online packages. Our reporters demonstrate vision and understanding of news events and suggest story ideas and multimedia packages.

Community beats are a good opportunity for someone new to the business to gain experience covering hard news, government issues and features.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related field. Community reporters should expect some evening and weekend work. Experience with multimedia, including video, is helpful as we advance our online coverage.

Real estate feature writer/copy editor

Post-Newsweek Media, a stable media company in the Washington, D.C., area, has an opening for a real estate writer/copy editor to write light features for weekly Homes sections in our community newspapers. Responsibilities will also include directing freelancers and coordinating and editing copy and photos for real estate sections in three counties.

As part of our special sections team, this job comes with the opportunity to independently edit supplements, to use or learn basic graphic design skills and to work with clients on other newspapers we publish for them. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines and priorities.

Prefer some experience on a PC platform with QuarkXPress and Photoshop, but will train the right entry-level candidate.

Position is based in Gaithersburg, MD. Company offers benefits, including medical, dental and 401(k).
