All-Gazette gymnastics

Coach of the Year

Dana Creager, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, eighth year; Guided youthful squad that was full of depth to sweep of championship tournaments with scores of 173.425 at county meet and 176.475 at state meet.

Gymnast of the Year

Danae Johnson, Blake, Junior; Repeated as county and state all-around champion after deciding late to rejoin team, scoring a 37.075 at county meet and 37.8 at states.

*Jenna Amon, Sherwood, Soph.; Led resurgent Warriors squad by taking sixth in county meet’s all-around competition with a score of 35.525, including tying for third place on floor exercise.

*Elizabeth Bofill, Sherwood, Fr.; One of many talented freshmen to take county by storm, Bofill placed seventh in county all-around (35.5) and placed third on balance beam at states.

*Hanna Brande, Springbrook, Fr.; Concluded county debut by placing fifth at county meet with all-around score of 36.15, including taking third on balance beam with score of 9.05.

*Laura Treacy, Blake, Fr.; Yet another talented Bengal, took third in all-around at county meet (36.45) and fifth at states, including third on vault. She placed sixth or higher in three of four events at counties.

*Claire Miller, Walter Johnson, Jr.; Steady performer helped Wildcats to second place in both county and state by placing fourth in county all-around and third at states while also winning the uneven bars competition at states.

*Dana Simms, Walter Johnson, Sr.; One of three Wildcats in the top nine in county’s all-around competition, placing eighth with score of 35.1.

*Nicole Williams, Blake, Soph.; Followed Johnson’s lead for second straight year, placing second in all-around at counties (36.7) and states (37.075). She won floor exercise (9.45) at state meet.
