Tiger Woods played a practice round at Congressional Country Club Tuesday, in advance of hosting the AT&T National for the third time.
At his press conference afterwards, Woods pronounced the course "in great shape" and joked that it was "certainly drier than Bethpage," where he finished in a tie for sixth place, four strokes behind winner Lucas Glover.
But Woods continued to bemoan the softness of Congressional's greens, which he also criticized at the inaugural AT&T National in 2007. As a result, the United States Golf Association chose to move the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championships away from Congressional, and require the course to redesign its greens in time for the 2011 U.S. Open.
"I think the golf course can be in even better shape with the new greens" when the AT&T National returns in 2012, after an enforced two-year hiatus at Aronimink Golf Club in suburban Philadelphia.
"As far as the overall setup, I'm very pleased with how it's set up," Woods said. "If we can get some dry weather, this golf course will be playing like all the guys want. I want the rough up and the greens firm."
