Harry Walter Ward, Sr., 59, of Mount Airy, died Oct. 28, 2009, at his residence. He was the husband of Arceli M. Penazo "Sally" Ward, his wife of 37 years.
Born Aug. 22, 1950, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Clarence Henry, Sr. and Anna Clara Wolfe Ward. He was a K-9 police officer for the Dept. of Defense. Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Marine Corps. in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing golf and softball.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Harry Walter Ward, Jr. of Mount Airy; grandson Thomas Harrison Ward of Mount Airy; two brothers, Eugene C. Ward, Sr., and wife Faye of Cambridge and DeWayne L. Ward, Sr., and wife Teresa of Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Ward as well as his K-9 partner of nine years, "Shadow".
The family received friends Wednesday at Stauffer Funeral Home, Mount Airy where services will be held at 11 a.m. today, with Robert Ford officiating. Interment will take place at Garrison Forest Veteran's Cemetery, Owings Mills.
