Five Prince George's County products on the Bowie State University football team were recognized Thursday as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association named its all-league and all-rookie teams.
In all, Bowie State had eight players named All-CIAA and four named to the All-Rookie team. The Bulldogs still have one game remaining to play. They will take on Fayetteville State University in the CIAA championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Durham, N.C.
Suitland High School graduate James Proctor was named to the All-CIAA First Team Offense as a kick returner. The sophomore averages 31.5 yards per return this season and has returned two of 18 kicks for touchdowns. Proctor is joined on the first-team offense by running back Rodney Webb. The Baltimore native has 819 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
The First Team Defense includes Bowie State's Yusef Dorman-El of Baltimore, a defensive lineman who leads the Bulldogs with 5.5 sacks. Memphis native Terence Peete Jr. earned his second All-CIAA honor as a defensive back. The junior is Bowie State's second-leading tackler with 51 and had four fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
Gwynn Park High graduate James Hardaway was named to the second team as an offensive lineman. Oxon Hill High graduate Kenny Turner, who leads Bowie State with five interceptions, was named to the second team as a defensive back, and is joined by teammate Sterling Grant-Jones, a Baltimore native who is the Bulldogs' leading tackler (57).
Dominique Budd of Silver Spring was named to the second team as a punt returner. The Bowie State sophomore averages 9.5 yards per return.
Running back Ramono Flowers (Largo High) and special teams player Gregory Jackson (Gwynn Park High) were named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team. Flowers is Bowie State's second-leading rusher with 354 yards and four touchdowns. Jackson, a wide receiver, has registered 29 tackles (22 solo, 7 assists) on Bowie State's special teams.
Quarterback Tyrae Reid of Baltimore and Glen White of Charlotte Hall, Md., also were named to the All-Rookie team. Reid has thrown for 673 yards and three touchdowns. Hall has started three games on the offensive line.
