A salute to Hyattsville police
|
This is to extend a big "thank you" to [Chief Douglas K. Holland] and all the police officers in [his] department for the extra patrolling and policing on Halloween night in the city of Hyattsville. Living in the 6100 block of 41st Avenue, we saw HPD police cruisers with flashing lights on (no sirens) travel up and down our street at least four times or more throughout Halloween night. On one occasion, the police officer flashed a floodlight around the yard of a vacant house across the street looking for any Halloween "goblins" lurking that might plan to cause trouble.
As a result, all was quiet with 92 trick-or-treaters at our door! To the best of my knowledge, no "goblin" incidences occurred in our neighborhood attributed to the extra security measures taken by the HPD under [Holland's] direction.
There is no doubt that officers of the HPD put in extra hours working overtime on Halloween night to protect the city. This means they sacrificed quality time with their families on Halloween and securing their own homes and property to patrol our community.
I salute [Holland] and [his] entire HPD for their dedication and sacrifices they make and putting their life on the line each day to make the city of Hyattsville a safer place for us all.
